Background

In mid 2007 The Bower successfully received funding from Marrickville Council for the creation

of a library facility within The Bower’s building located at the Addison Road Centre.

Construction work for the library has commenced and is due to be completed in early June.

This new space will house the Bower’s extensive collection of reuse, simple living and DIY

books. It will also be home to the many high quality books and journals on sustainable design,

belonging to the Society for Responsible Design (SRD).

The intention of the library is to provide the members of The Bower and the local community

in the vicinity, with access to information on how to live more sustainably.  Resources to carry

out these activities will include books and journals (as stated above) and leaflets, dvd’s and

videos, and in the longer term the possibility of internet use. The Bower also intends to

promote and advance environmental issues such as repair of household goods and the use of

DIY in eco-design.

Apart from making these resources available to the community, it will also be a place where

lectures, seminars, meetings and workshops can be held by other interested parties

advocating similar aims to those of The Bower.

The Bower is currently looking for a person with librarian and/or education experience to set

up the workings of the facility as a library and resource centre.
