The Bower Consignment SectionThe Bower is built on a tradition of Reuse and Repair. In addition to diverting waste from landfill, it serves as a demonstration of possibility, encouraging Sydneysiders to prolong their use of existing goods rather than purchase new and dispose of valuable resources for the sake of expediency.
Our member base, like our staff, are a competent, lateral thinking bunch who get a kick out of repairing, restoring and resurrecting goods. From depression era hutches to retro chairs and 70s formica tables, bicycles and billy carts, the display is something to behold. Some of our members leave the box completely behind and appropriate items for completely new purposes - At The Bower an aquarium becomes a puppet theatre, old skis become an entertainment unit, street banners upholster retro furniture, and industrial artefacts become wall art.
Several members have been contributing repaired goods for sale since The Bower opened it's doors, well before we developed a policy to support their worthy art. Today we have The Bowerhaus, a dedicated department in store for extended members to display, promote and sell their wares, educating the community on the value of repair, and the potential of old goods.
